Resources

Elgin has a long history of making, building, and hands-on craftsmanship, yet many local woodworkers and makers lack access to affordable space, shared tools, and a supportive creative community. Too often, makers are working in garages, basements, or temporary setups that limit what they can create, learn, or sustain.

A dedicated maker space can change that. It can provide safe, shared access to equipment, room to grow skills, opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, and a place where beginners and experienced makers alike feel welcome. Whether you work in wood, metal, mixed media, design, or fabrication, your input helps shape a space that reflects real needs—not assumptions.

This survey is a first step in building a maker space that serves Elgin’s creative community now and into the future. Your feedback will directly inform decisions around space size, tools, programming, access, and affordability. Click HERE to take our MAKER SPACE SURVEY.

And, thanks.
